FL Building Services Ltd was invited to investigate ongoing water leakage issues affecting the shower and changing facilities at Barry’s Bootcamp Victoria in Eccleston Yards, London. Following a detailed site investigation, it became clear that the existing shower construction had multiple critical failures involving the original design approach, material selection and workmanship quality.
The Challenge
The original shower installation suffered from ongoing water leakage issues affecting both the shower areas and surrounding lobby spaces. Following a full investigation, multiple failures were identified involving the original design approach, unsuitable material selection and poor workmanship standards.
The existing construction relied on timber stud walls, OSB boarding, moisture-resistant plasterboard and liquid tanking systems that were not suitable for the long-term demands of a high-usage commercial shower environment.
Investigation works revealed extensive water ingress, failed waterproofing systems and structural deterioration within the original shower construction.
The Solution
FL Building Services Ltd proposed a complete redesign and reconstruction of the shower and changing facilities using a fully waterproof commercial-grade system designed for high-use environments.
The new installation replaced the original timber stud construction with metal stud framing, cement backer boards, combined with German-made Wedi waterproof building boards, Wedi shower trays and the full Wedi sealing system.
This approach created a fully integrated waterproof structure with significantly improved durability, long-term reliability and resistance to movement and moisture failure.
Drainage & Water Control Improvements
To prevent ongoing water migration from the shower areas into the surrounding lobby spaces, the changing room layout was redesigned with improved drainage detailing.
A marble threshold system was introduced together with a secondary drainage channel designed to collect excess surface water from users exiting the showers before it could spread into circulation areas.
The final design significantly improved water management throughout the facility while maintaining a clean commercial appearance suitable for a premium fitness environment.
